Law360, London (Aug 26, 2021 6:52 p.m. BST) – The UK government on Thursday named New Zealand’s current Data Protection Commissioner, John Edwards, as its preferred candidate for Information Commissioner and outlined plans to expand the role of Data Protection Officer Office to support companies in global data exchange.

Edwards will bring “a wealth of data regulation experience” from his current position as well as two decades as a lawyer, said the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports. Edwards’ current New Zealand office includes duties such as providing information and compliance measures with respect to personal data, the government added.
