Creation of North American camel association important for the sector: ICO President

The establishment of the North American Camel Ranches Owners Association (NACROA) is an important step in the development of the camel sector, said Sheikh Fahd Hithleen, founder and president of the International Camel Organization (ICO), on Thursday.

NACROA aims to support and promote the camel industry in North America and to advocate for best practices related to camel welfare and health. The organization was created under the supervision of the ICO.

Camel ranch owners in North America held meetings for the first time last September to explore the development of an association under the ICO before the group was formed later that month.

Hithleen had previously campaigned for the establishment of NACROA as well as other international organizations such as the European Camel Ranch Owners Association. On Thursday, the ICO founder said the formation of the new North American group will help develop the entire camel sector, before later thanking camel ranch owners for their efforts in establishing NACROA as quickly as possible.

The number of camel farms in North America has increased in recent years, a fact that Aaron Wendell, President of NACROA, cited on Thursday as the reason for starting the group. Wendell added that support from the ICO accelerated the initiative to better serve the camel sector.

Wendell thanked Hithleen for his efforts and encouragement in advance of founding NACROA.

The ICO is a non-profit organization based in Riyadh founded by Hithleen in March 2019. The group currently comprises around 105 member countries from around the world and has set itself the goal of developing and serving the camel sector.

Camel racing and camel polo are popular sports, especially in the Middle East. Last year, Saudi Arabia opened the world’s largest camel hospital in Riyadh for $ 36.5 million. The hospital will provide basic health care to camels, but will also treat chronic and infectious diseases and focus on research and development of camel breeding and fertilization.
