A bitcoin ETF could threaten the world’s biggest crypto fund


Gary Gensler finds cryptocurrencies so interesting that he once taught a 24-class course on how to use the blockchain. This may be a good sign for the many Bitcoin enthusiasts when the MIT Sloan professor takes up his new position as chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The SEC chairman’s remit is large, but one item currently sitting in his tray is particularly noticeable. US asset managers VanEck and WisdomTree are asking regulators for permission to list exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
